Anniversary of a famous Chinese architect held in Beijing

( Post Time: April 22,2011 )
Anniversary of one of the most famous Chinese architects Liang Sicheng was held in Tsinghua University in Beijing yesterday. This year is the 110th birthday anniversary of Liang.

The book Chinese Architecture: Art and Artifacts, which is a collection of Liang's research articles on China's ancient architecture was released during the event.

Born in 1901, Liang Sicheng was a pioneer in the historical research and exploration in Chinese architecture and a leader in the restoration and preservation of ancient monuments in China.

Recognized as the "Father of Modern Chinese Architecture", Liang is the author of the book, A History of Chinese Architecture, and he was also the Chinese representative in the Design Board which designed the United Nations' headquarters in New York.

Liang's second wife Lin Zhu, the editor of the new publication, said, "Many of the articles in the book are written in English which can help the western readers cultivate a deeper understanding in the ancient Chinese architecture."

"Liang believed that cultural exchange between different countries can greatly contribute to the development of the national culture," Lin added.

The book is a reflection of Liang Sicheng's remarkable academic insights and great command of English, said Wu Hao, a publisher of the book.

Liang has a deep love for the Chinese architecture, and he was determined to introduce the beauty and glory of the Chinese architecture to the whole world, Wu said.
