Beijing intangible cultural heritage exhibition kicked off Feb 5

A national exhibition showing China's achievements in protecting its intangible cultural heritage kicked off at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing on Feb. 5.
The exhibition includes a total of 2,000 exhibits demonstrating 188 intangible cultural heritage items, and nearly 170 artists are there to introduce these exhibits to visitors, so they will fully appreciate the charm of intangible cultural heritage.
Three Beijing-based enterprises included in China's first batch of state-level intangible cultural heritage productive protection bases – Beijing Enamel Factory, Beijing Neiliansheng Shoes Company, and Beijing Rongbaozhai - displayed their products at the exhibition.
The soles of a pair of Neiliansheng cloth shoes require 2,100 stitches, not to mention other procedures such as sewing the sole and upper together. It normally takes a skilled worker four to five days to make a pair of Neiliansheng cloth shoes. Many visitors took photos and asked questions while a worker was making Neiliansheng cloth shoes at the exhibition section of productive protection bases.
Beijing displays 12 of its intangible cultural heritage items at the exhibition. In addition to cloisonné, Neiliansheng cloth shoes, and Rongbaozhai, ivory carving, inside-painted snuff bottles, Ha's Kites, restoration techniques of bronze works, and gold lacquer inlay techniques are also very popular at the exhibition.
