Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is one of the symbols of Tongzhou District. And Tongzhou Grand Canal Park is a result to spread the culture of this ancient project. Tongzhou Grand Canal Park is located in Tongzhou District, southeast of Beijing. It covers a total area of 368 square meters (909 acres) with length of 4,600 meters and width of 600-800 meters. Original build in 1936 and expanded in 1985, Grand Canal welcomes the first boat on April 26 after 107 years.
 
About Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal
The 1,700-kilometer-long Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is a water conservancy project in ancient China. Starting at Beijing it passes through Tianjin and the provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the city of Hangzhou. In Tianjin the canal heads northwest toward Tongzhou, it is here that the modern canal stops and that a Grand Canal Cultural Park has been built.
 
Briefing introduction
Tongzhou Canal Park, in a length of 4,600m, is a multifunctional place gathering recreation, education, sports, gym, overwater tourism to be a whole. It is also a city park of largest area in eastern Beijing. It's recorded that Tongzhou has always been an important traffic way, sea transportation, warehousing. As we all know, canals and sea transportation have constantly been attached importance by governments of any dynasties, so, Tongzhou has been a really important place for a long time.
 
Influences of Canal Park
Trading ships and sightseeing cruises shuttled back and forth here at that time. Docks, food warehouse, stores, bars and inns could all be found here. The cultural atmosphere was profound as well. There was a Luhe Academy collected many scholars and the temples were flourishing too. Tongzhou, a place drove by the canal, had been extremely prosperous.
